Gus Wortham Park Golf Course

Gus Wortham Park Golf Course, near Houston, TX downtown, is full of surprises for golfers and non-golfers. This nine-hole par three course has been part of the Houston landscape since 1967, when it was built over a landfill by the City of Houston Parks Department. The course lies between two bayous that feed into the Buffalo Bayou.

Although small compared to other Houston area courses, Gus Wortham Park Golf Course offers plenty of challenges and features that make it unique among local golfing destinations. With large sand traps, tree-lined fairways, and narrow greens, even experienced golfers can be challenged on this compact course.

"Gusballs"

What makes Gus Wortham stand out from other courses is its "Gusballs." These are pieces of rubber tire found in the ponds and sand traps that add a unique twist to every shot. The challenge is to avoid hitting them with your tee shots, or if you do, being able to locate them afterward!

Expansive Green Space

Gus Wortham also offers something for Houston's non-golfing population: its expansive green space. With over 30 acres of parkland, you can have a picnic, do kite flying, bird watching, and do other outdoor activities year-round. The course has extensive walking paths for those who want to take advantage of the views but do not necessarily play golf.

Price

If all that wasn't enough, Gus Wortham Park Golf Course is affordable for golfers. For the price of a single game, you can play nine holes with a cart and club rental. There are discounts for juniors and seniors and courses for four or more players.

Urban Landscape

The course is nestled right in the heart of Houston. With a stunning backdrop of downtown Houston skyscrapers, golfers can feel like they are playing on one of the country's most famous courses, even though they may be a few miles from home.

Looking around, you can see green spaces, bayous, and the downtown skyline. You can feel like you're in the middle of a city while still having the feeling of being in nature.

Amenities

The course has a pro shop for those needing golf equipment and supplies, including rental clubs and carts. You can also get souvenirs, shirts, and hats. Their bar and restaurant offer breakfast and lunch to customers. Make sure to try their famous "Gusburger" before or after your game.

There are also restrooms located throughout the course for convenience.

Gus Wortham Park Golf Course is an affordable, challenging, and unique 9-hole par three that has been part of the Houston landscape for over 50 years. With its "Gusballs," ample green space, low prices, and urban setting, it remains one of the city's favorite places to play.
